A note about the Board of Finance race. There are three Democrats on the ballot for the 2025 Municipal Election. Due to Connecitcut’s minority party rules and the rotating terms of Cromwell’s Board of Finance, at least two of the seats in this year’s election will be filled by minority party candidates. The current majority party for the Board of Finance is the Republican party. No other candidates are running as unaffiliated so two of those seats are presumed to go to the Democratic candidates Dan Kelly and James Fedeli. The other race is for a two-year term for a seat that was vacated before the term ended. This race is between Democrat Edwin Maley and Republican Jamin DeProto.
In a town where responsible fiscal oversight matters, Edwin Maley stands out as the kind of candidate Cromwell needs. As he seeks re-election to the Cromwell Board of Finance his record reflects the values of transparency, community-investment, and long-term thinking.
Proven Experience & Commitment
Edwin Maley has served on the Board of Finance and in town governance, and brings decades of institutional knowledge to the role. He understands the mechanics of town budgets — not just line items, but the impact on families, schools, and local services.
Prioritizing Smart Investment
Maley supported the high school track project at Cromwell High School. The track has been in need of replacement and improvement, and while his republican opponent did not support moving ahead at the initial vote, Maley recognized that delaying this investment would cost more and deprive students, families and the community of critical athletic and recreational benefits right from the start.
By supporting the track, Maley aligns fiscal responsibility with proactive community investment. The spend today prevents larger costs tomorrow, and keeps our youth and public facilities in good shape.
What This Means for You (the Voter)
Taxpayer value: Maley understands that prudent investments like the track improvement and other infrastructure aren’t frivolous. They protect property values, attract families, and avoid emergency costs down the line.
School & youth support: By backing the track, he sends a strong message that Cromwell prioritizes its youth, athletics, recreation, and the communal benefits of shared facilities.
Why It Matters Right Now
Cromwell is at an inflection point with balancing tight budgets, aging infrastructure, and evolving community needs. The Board of Finance must take a thoughtful, long-term view. Choosing a candidate like Edwin Maley means selecting someone who sees both the ledger and the larger story: investments in students, in recreation, in facility upgrades, all of which pay dividends for years. It also means selecting someone who will ask the tough questions, scrutinize line-items, and ensure our tax dollars are working hard — not just for today, but for the next generation.
